Diva On A Dime: Lady In Red

What-Up Peeps!

Happy first day of Spring 🙂 I can’t think of a better way to kick off this new season than with a BOMB Spring dress. Recently, Last Chance had a sale where all dresses were 50% off and ya girl has been cleaning up!!!!!! So get ready for the next few DOD’s to be dress-centric. Although I purchased quite a few short dresses, I really wanted a midi-dress and was thrilled when I found this red number on the racks. Where to begin with this beauty!? It’s a classic silhouette that’s breathable, a great color and was only 20 dollars. I liked that it gave me little house on the prairie vibes and I could put my own twist on it. Since it has a great collar detail, I kept accessories simple pairing it with my gold hoops and platform ankle boots. My how the compliments abounded when I wore this dress! After church, I popped into my favorite neighborhood ice cream shop and had one of the employees snap a few pics of me ( Thanks Nami!!!) Enjoy the shots below.

What are some of your favorite Spring dress trends? Please share in the comments below.

The Blues: Frayed Denim Edition

What-Up Peeps!

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend, I know I did 🙂 I wanted to slide through real quick to share with you how I recently revamped these jeans into frayed hem denim. I’ve had these high waisted jeans for at least 8-9 years. Bought on clearance for maybe $13.00 dollars, I decided that I wanted to give the DIY frayed hem a try and chose this pair as one of my test dummies as they had an unusually long hem. There are a myriad of YouTube videos on how to do this, I merely selected one that wasn’t too long in length and got to fraying. Please be aware that this is a messy process so be sure to do this over a sheet or newspaper for an easy cleanup.

Once done, I LOVED the results! This is such an easy way to update a current item in your wardrobe. For this ensemble, I paired these jeans with my Sam Edelman blue suede mules, a $7 Forever 21 breezy top, and my $4 beauty supply hoops. Seeing as though I was bloated and just ate my body weight in french toast at brunch, this look was a Godsend!!

What are your thoughts on the frayed denim trend? Have you all done it? If not, you should. Please feel free to share in the comments below.

Denim- High Waisted Jeans, $13-Forever 21

Gone With The Wind Fabulous

What-Up Peeps!!!

I just came home from a last-minute camping trip where I volunteered at a music festival in the desert(more on that in my next post). However, I’ve made it a point to consistently post on Tuesday’s so even though I’m exhausted, HERE I AM 🙂

A couple months ago, I hit up the clearance rack at my favorite Forever 21 just after they discounted all the Winter items in preparation for the Spring/Summer merchandise. To my delight, I came across the BOMB geometric print duster. Upon trying it on, I instantly fell in love: it’s lightweight, comes in an awesome print and can be dressed up or down.

I’ve already worn this to the airport, running errands and have at least three additional ways I want to style this piece. This time around I paired the duster with a simple white tank top, distressed ankle  jeans, and these GORGEOUS pewter blue strappy heels that I recently purchased from Last Chance. My best friend and I went to see Chris Rock a couple weeks ago and she snapped this pictures of me before the show.

This  marks the fifth duster I have in my wardrobe and I must say it is by far my favorite! What are you’re thoughts on this trend? Do you have any in your wardrobe and how do you style it?

Diva on A Dime: If I Had A Boyfriend, This Would Be His Tee

What-Up Peeps!

I’ve been wanting to rock an oversized men’s tee for awhile now. On the low, I like wearing mens clothes, they’re comfortable, chic, androgynous and form quite the structured ensemble when paired with tailored pieces. Whenever God links me up with my future boo, he’s going to have to get comfortable with me stealing his clothes :). I spotted this dope Daft Punk/Frida tee for $10 while in LA and knew I had to have it! I bought an XL and decided to pair it with my well worn Jordan’s ( I believe these are the Raptor’s), my $5.00 sunglasses and trusty $5.00 black clutch.

I also bought this shirt in the color black so suffice to say I’ll be living in this t-shirt as we swing from spring to summer. I felt so sexy, comfortable and edgy in this ensemble. What is your take on menswear, are you into it or nah? Feel free to let me know in the comments below.

Diva On A Dime: Knee High’s & Cut-Off’s

What-Up Peeps!

So, I did a TON of online shopping back in November when retailers rolled out all the Black Friday shopping deals. Among my purchases are these lovely over-the- knee grey suede boots I bought at Aldo for $50.00. As we know,  this style of boot has been hot for a while now, made popular by Stuart Weitzman’s design, but we all know that I’m not paying $800-$1,000 for a pair of shoes( not these anyway) I’m so glad to have snagged these beauties for this price as I have enjoyed wearing them in the Winter months into the Spring season before it gets too hot outside.

This time around, I paired them with some well-worn Wrangler cut-off shorts that I’ve had for the past four years: you’ve seen them on the blog before and you will certainly see them again as I love to style these shorts a myriad of ways. My trusty vintage clutch also makes an appearance and I wore this comfy oversized white tee that I purchased for five dollars at Forever 21 a couple years ago.

Last week, I joined a good friend downtown to celebrate her 30th birthday and she snapped these pictures in front of this cool wall( Thanks Jenna!) What are your thoughts on the over-the-knee trend? Please share in the comments below

Diva On A Dime: $18 Corduroy Mini

What-Up Peeps!

Spring has finally sprung and it was the perfect time to bust out this $18 button up skirt, I recently purchased at SheIn.com. I’d had my eye on this style of skirt for a bit and decided to purchase it from SheIn as they have trendy styles at a low cost. Since I’ve been blessed with a booty, 🙂 I ordered up a size and got a medium to ensure all my assets fit properly LOL. Despite it being a bit loose at the waist, I’m still pleased with the fit of this skirt. This time around, I paired this skirt with my black sock fit ankle boots, basic v-neck tee, and my tiered choker.

Are you all feeling the button-up skirt trend? I know it comes in a variety of styles and many looks can be created with this little beauty! Feel free to tell me how your styling it in the comments below.

Diva on A Dime: All Black Everything (Summer Edition)

What-Up Peeps!!!!

It’s been too long since I’ve done a Diva on a Dime series 🙂 One of my favorite posts from last year, was the all black everything DOD I did in the winter( I just replaced that skirt thanks to E-bay!!!!) Recently, I did some shopping and was pleased to find this lightweight, pleated dress on sale at Forever 21. Obviously wearing all black in the hot summer months isn’t ideal, but you can pull it off if you choose airy pieces. This dress is pretty much a tank top with a tulle bottom and I barely broke a sweat while wearing it. I decided to pair it with my favorite black and gold skinny belt, Topshop chunky boots, DIY elastic choker, and this awesome clutch that slides right up my hand or arm. I find that during the summer, most places crank up the A/C to near frigid temps so I brought along a denim jacket to combat the inevitable chill.

Diva on a Dime: Mighty Whitey

What-Up Peeps!!

Happy first of May!! I don’t know about you, but I NEED a fresh start this month 🙂 As mentioned, I bought my entire spring wardrobe for $105 a couple months ago. Today’s feature is a $12.00 white mesh pencil skirt that was a part of that haul. I was instantly drawn to the unique design of this skirt: mesh, white and just sexy enough without crossing the line into trashy( hey now!) I’ve been inspired by fellow blogger Aimee Song from the wildly popular Song of Style site, who sometimes wears bandanas as chokers. So, earlier this week, I popped into a cheap clothing store and bought five of them for a dollar apiece. I instantly knew that I wanted to keep this ensemble somewhat monochromatic with a pop of color and that’s exactly what I did!! I paired the skirt with my ALL TIME FAVORITE  $ 3.00 white tee that I’ve had since college( I’m never getting rid of it) , my red bandana, and the black version of my Steve Madden gladiator heels. I absolutely loved how this turned out and was immediately drawn to this yellow wall after finishing lunch with friends.

Diva on a Dime: Denim Deals

What-Up Peeps!!

Today, I wanted to stop in really quick and share with you all how I scored these $200 Citizen of Humanity Wide Leg Denim for $17.00!!!! Over a year ago, I saw the jeans at Last Chance and there was a huge rip in the crotch: for that reason they were only $7.00. Upon inspecting them I saw that the jeans were in excellent condition and the rip was right on the seam of the pants which meant it could easily be repaired. So, I bought them and stored them in my closet determined to take them to my tailor. This January, I did just that and she only charged me $10 to stitch and patch up the rip 🙂 I absolutely love these jeans and decided to pair them with one of my favorite flowing blouses I bought for $5.00. The lesson in this is sometimes as a DOD you may find a piece that needs a little love, if the price point is worth it and you have the means to have it easily repaired…DO IT you may find yourself with a hidden gem that just needs to be polished. Also, a good tailor is clutch, they are such a great resource to breathe life into older items and repair new ones to your liking.

Diva on A Dime: Eight Dollar Shirtdress for The Win!!

What-up Peeps!!!!

How goes it with you all? I’ve been busy setting up retirement accounts, plotting my escape, and looking at houses( being an adult is ooh so much fun)  Today’s latest edition of Diva on Dime is dedicated to this ADORABLE $8.00 shirt dress I ordered online from Forever 21 around Christmas time( I went on the site  looking for a turtleneck, but that’s a different story) If you know me, you know I’m a sucker for a shirtdress: I love the versatility of this piece, it can be dressed up or down and easily transitions from season to season.  In my typical fashion, when ordering it, I instantly knew that I wanted to pair this dress with tights, my platform suede pumps, and this adorable gold-plated chain belt I picked up for $1.00.  Sidebar: Can we just acknowledge  how much I am loving my new two-strand twists?!! All my natural sistas out there can appreciate the beauty of a protective style 🙂
